The closing chapter of the parcel mystery

It didn’t take long for the global community to crack the mystery parcel dilemma. (see previous blog)
Twitter buddy Guido (@adb44) took the initiative, found the Peterhoff’s number and very kindly phoned them, at which point everything was clarified.
The parcel is now on its way to its rightful owners who are indeed in Unst, Shetland, so it’s a big thanks to all of you who tweeted, Topsy’d, blogged and FaceBooked to help solve the problem.
I’ve even been in communication with the good Herr Peterhoff, sender of the parcel.
Here’s what he wrote to me, reproduced with his kind permission:

Dear Mrs Macaulay,
I got this (for me) astonishing telephone call this afternoon, telling me that my Christmas present for the Macaulay Family on the Shetland Islands had ended up in Uig on the Outer Hebrides. Well it was all my fault, since for some reason I had mixed up Unst and Uig on the envelope being in a pre-Christmas hurry. But thank God the mail got into the hands of some people like you who knew what to do. I would be most obliged if you told the postie to take it back to Unst on the Shetlands where our friends live in Haroldswick (next to the funny bus shelter which was furnished not only with a couch a table and curtains but also with a Tv-set and a computer).
Thanks again for going to the trouble of investigating into the matter,
yours
Frank Peterhoff from Lenggries

I want to visit Unst now, to witness the miraculous bus shelter. It’s bound to have better broadband than we do.
As a post script, I remain in correspondence with Herr Peterhoff re the Uig- Uist thing. I must find a way of showing him where North Uist is, as even his large scale map has failed to reveal its whereabouts, which is rather ignominious news for us.

Sounds as if the inter-insular confusion keeps rearing its head. If you click on my name above this comment, you’ll be taken to an entry on my blog, which displays a map with all the relevant (and not relevant) names.

Thanks Guido, this is really helpful as displaying a map is beyond my capabilities at present!

Nice to have a happy ending but a bit ignominious for the posties of Unst. I thought all posties were famous for their ability to deliver to “Ali whose father is a bus driver and who lives in a caravan next to the shop in a village on the West Coast, Scotland” … they used to be able to.
