I’m off to the Black Isle show
I’m off to the Black Isle Show tomorrow- if you’re passing I139 on Thursday come and say hello. There might even be a bit of mutton pie to sample as we’re doing crofter’s pie tastings as a bit of informal product research…more follows!
Meanwhile, join me and 30 others on a beautiful walk to the tidal island of Vallay a few days ago:

I think you’ll agree Vallay is absolutely magical. There’s an exhibition about it in Taigh Chearsabhagh until January, well worth the visit, if you’re in these parts.

What a beautiful place !!! are all the houses derelict or do some people still live there?? These photos show up perfectly will, its only the ones on the previous post that won’t open. Have a great time at the show–the food is making my mouth water.
No-one lives there now, but the island is rented for grazing by an excellent crofting family here who put Highland cattle on it for part of the year. There’s lots about Erskine Beveridge, who built the big house, Vallay House, on the internet. The whole place is amazing and fascinating and one of my favourite haunts in these islands.
How beautiful – a world apart from everything. Dream-like.
That Erskine Beveridge got around quite a man! I mentioned him recently as his photos were being displayed in Crail http://www.2crail.com/2010/06/02/what-was-in-the-box/
