North Uist Agricultural Show

Show judge Willie Neilson declared North Uist stock to be every good as mainland stock, if not better.
He thought this heifer was poetry in motion, and made her supreme show champion. Her breeder is John-Allan MacLellan, who scooped many other prizes for his cattle.

This was the supreme sheep, belonging to Hugh MacDonald, Hosta.
Wonderment. We have great gardeners on North Uist.

The whole island is proud of this young man. Ruairidh MacDonald,14,
won the young stock judging competition, with his marks completely in agreement with Willie Neilson’s. He said he was looking for ‘goodness’ in the animal. Ruairidh is a self-taught shearer and has already shorn 850 sheep this year. He’s been invited to shear on the mainland next year. No wonder. He’s a real talent and shining light for the future of crofting on these islands.
